St. Vincent’s presents scaled back development

St. Vincent’s Hospital and Rudin Management have presented a downsized version of their $1.6 billion development plan, following their failure to gain approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Instead of demolishing nine buildings in the Greenwich Village Historic District, the plan would demolish five buildings and preserve the other four. A hospital tower on the west side of Seventh Avenue, between 12th and 13th Streets, is now 30 feet lower and 40 feet narrower. A luxury condo tower on the east side of Seventh Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets, is now 32 feet lower and 60 feet narrower. Nineteen townhouses on West 11th and West 12th Streets have been cut to five town houses on West 11th Street, while a nine-story residential building on West 12th Street remains. The hospital is applying for hardship approval to demolish the monumental O’Toole Building.
