Cushman gets new digs

Commercial real estate company Cushman & Wakefield is moving its world headquarters out of the CBS building to 1290 Avenue of the Americas in Midtown.

The firm signed a 15-year lease for 156,282 square feet on the entire seventh floor plus parts of floors eight and nine in the Class A Vornado building between 51st and 52nd streets.

More than 500 employees will be moving to the new space, which is 1,282 square feet bigger than its current digs.

When Cushman & Wakefield moves in at the end of 2009, it will be one of a number of large tenants in the 43-story, 2 million-square-foot building, including AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company and Microsoft. Cushman & Wakefield has 15,000 employees in 221 offices in 58 countries.

“We look forward to our move to 1290 Avenue of the Americas, and to the creation of a more efficient and collaborative workplace,” said Bruce Mosler, president and CEO of Cushman & Wakefield in a statement. “The building’s large floor plates will allow for an open environment, fostering communication among our employees and various service lines.”
