The Manhattan district attorney’s office is investigating whether the crane that collapsed Friday on the Upper East Side had a turntable with the same cracked piece that was supposed to be repaired last year. The district attorney’s office is trying to determine if the Department of Buildings ordered New York Crane to dispose of the broken turntable or if New York Crane properly repaired it and the DOB signed off on the repairs. One expert wonders if the crack had just been covered rather than knitted together all the way through. [NYT] and [NYDN]
