The city is expected to announce new construction safety measures today, in the wake of two deadly crane collapses since March and 15 construction deaths this year, compared to 12 for all of 2007. A new system is expected to track serious safety violations by firm, instead of just by construction site. Meanwhile, some big contractors are considering using independent inspectors to ensure that their tower cranes are safe. [Post] and [NYT]
