Lawmaker wants to ban Gowanus hotels

Democratic Council Member Bill DeBlasio wants to put a stop to the budding Gowanus hotel district, where three new hotels stand and four more are in the works. DeBlasio, who wants a ban on new hotels, and some activists say the hotels will squeeze out the remaining industries in northern Gowanus. A Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn and the boutique Hotel Le Bleu have already opened. In its May issue, The Real Deal took a look at the transformation underway in Gowanus. And in the December issue, the magazine reported on new hotels along the BQE.
