Ikea opens in Red Hook next week

Ikea will open in Red Hook next week amidst a retail revival in the quiet waterfront neighborhood and other parts of Brooklyn. The Swedish furniture will employ 500 people. On a 22-acre site, the 345,000-square-foot store offers a children’s playroom, 450-seat restaurant, room settings, model home interiors, home delivery and design consultation. The store will provide free water taxi service and buses to major subway lines. Ikea will join another big popular store, Fairway Market, in Red Hook, along with a number of other retailers that are sprouting up in the area.
