Senate Republicans in Albany are warming to Governor Paterson’s proposed cap on property taxes. Joseph Bruno, the Republican majority leader who outspokenly opposed the deal last week, is pulling back on his opposition to the deal, following a recent poll that showed that 74 percent of New Yorkers supported the tax cap. However, Assembly Democrats remain opposed, and Speaker Sheldon Silver says he will not support the cap unless he is assured that schools would receive adequate funding.
