City Controller William Thompson slammed the Department of Buildings in a report that said the DOB failed to re-inspect 20 percent of the city’s worst-offending buildings last year. “The Buildings Department has permitted buildings with multiple open hazardous violations to go uncorrected for years,” Thompson said in his report, which found that in one out of three cases, the DOB failed to examine fixes that were self-certified by builders. The department said it “re-inspects every hazardous violation” in the city.
