New downtown planned for Southampton

The Southampton community of Riverside could get a brand new downtown at a 52-acre site of a former drive-in theater. A newly-approved redevelopment plan includes stores, offices, apartments and a 15,000-square-foot supermarket. Riverside has no downtown, officials said, and the plan would create one that would also serve the communities of Flanders and Northampton.
