A New Jersey town just one hour outside of Manhattan has been ranked fifth on Money magazine’s list of the best 100 small cities in the nation. Communities were ranked based on housing, crime rates, education quality as well as its natural assets and unique characteristics. Franklin Township is “very diverse and has great natural beauty,” assistant managing editor Beth Fenner said. “It has a primeval old-growth forest that has never been cleared for crops or development. Who knew?” Each of the cities ranked had a population between 50,000 and 300,000.
