Sun city editor heads to EDC

David Lombino, the city editor at the New York Sun, has left the financially floundering daily newspaper to take a job as vice president of public affairs at the city’s Economic Development Corporation, which promotes economic growth in the five boroughs. Lombino, who was the business and real estate editor at the Sun before taking over as city editor in March 2007, is scheduled to start the new job Monday. In his new role at EDC, Lombino will be the public point person for projects ranging from the controversial redevelopment of Willets Point in Queens to the massive affordable housing proposal for Hunter’s Point. His departure comes as the fate of the Sun is hanging in the balance. Last week, the broadsheet published a letter to readers saying that if it did not find more financial backing that it could fold by the end of the month. Lombino had no knowledge of the Sun’s predicament when he gave his notice just before that announcement was made. TRD
