City grants landmark status to five buildings

The city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission gave five buildings landmark status today. Among the buildings are the former Wheatsworth Bakery at 444 East 10th Street in the East Village, built in 1928, and the former Public National Bank of New York building at 106 Avenue C and Seventh Street, built in 1923. East Harlem’s Fire Engine Company No. 53, built in 1883 by Napoleon LeBrun & Sons, was also given landmark status.
