Avalon could buy Extra Place

At Community Board 3’s land-use committee meeting this month, developer Avalon Bay first made public the possibility that it would buy the small cul-de-sac known as Extra Place from the city. Avalon began developing the one-block-long street, located off of East First Street Between Bowery And Second Avenue, after responding to the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development’s request for proposal for the land five years ago. The developer recently completed Avalon Bowery Place, a nine-story, 206-unit luxury rental building, across the street.
