Council member speaks out against Willets Point

In a letter to Deputy Mayor Robert Lieber, City Council member John Liu spoke out against the Willets Point redevelopment plan, saying he is concerned that the city Economic Development Corp. has reached
agreements with only a small number of the existing businesses in the area and
that the agreements are non-binding on the EDC. Liu said he agrees that
eminent domain may be used to condemn private property for greater public good but
that the current plan would seize over 90 percent of properties at Willets Point.
