Governor David Paterson and members of the state Senate are having trouble agreeing on the future of the Aqueduct Race Track in Queens. The governor’s office, which has long planned to
build a casino at the site, announced Friday that Buffalo-based
developer Delaware North had been selected for the project. Delaware
North made the highest bid, at $370 million upfront, but its plans for the site are not as elaborate as those put forward by other bidders. Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos said the governor had chosen a plan that would help the state’s budget in the short term but wasn’t in the best interests of the community.
