Cheating crane operators keep licenses

Months after the city’s chief crane inspector, James Delayo, was indicted in June for taking bribes and issuing crane licenses without proper testing, none of the operators at Nu-Way Crane who allegedly benefited from the scheme have been retested. Ten of the company’s 11 crane operators received their licenses between 1996 and 2007 — the period in which the company paid Delayo $10,000 to help applicants cheat on their licensing exams. Nu-Way’s operators will retain their operating licenses until they are retested on January 1, 2009.
