Comptroller gives Willets Point development a plug

City Comptroller Bill Thompson today endorsed development of the 61-acre industrial zone of Willets Point to “prime the economy.” He cited its proximity to LaGuardia Airport and public transportation as assets, and said the development would attract tourists and create jobs in the area. The City Council must vote on the proposal by November 18. Thompson also said he supports tightening budgets, spurring economic development and diversifying the economy in order to deal with the financial crisis.
