studying the Bowne House in Flushing believe parts of it may have been
built before the previously-accepted date of 1661, which would make it the city’s oldest building. The Wyckoff Farmhouse in Brooklyn, on which construction began in 1652, is currently believed to be the city’s oldest building. If the Bowne House were proved to be older, the two buildings could compete for tourists and grant money.
