The Municipal Arts Society said its new planning initiative for Coney Island is not an effort to compete with the city’s plan, but rather is a brainstorming activity for the site’s entertainment section. In addition to the design group selected by the society, there will be a Web-based call for ideas and concepts for the entertainment section, which has been scaled down to nine acres from the original plan of 18 acres.
