The Hunter College School of Social Work will be upgrading and moving, selling its tower at 129 East 79th Street, and building an eight-story tower at Third Avenue, between 118th and 119th streets. The multi-party deal involves the school, which is part of the City University of New York, using $40 million of the proceeds of its building sale in conjunction with state construction funds for the $135 million project. The building, to be named the Lois V. and Samuel J. Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, will replace a vacant lot and several low-rise retail structures slated for demolition.
