Supermarkets face off on Court Street

The owner of Good Food Supermarket On Court Street between 3rd and
4th Place in Carroll Gardens
is worried about his 30-year-old business. A new, modern supermarket
called
Gourmet Fresh recently opened two doors down from his store. The supermarkets are a visual metaphor for how this end of
Court Street, still
heavily Italian, is gentrifying. The owner of Good Food, Al Sale, said
he has
seen some of his regular customers check out the new store and worries
they
won’t come back. And, another, smaller market is also on the block.
