Mayor trying to get Willets Point backing

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is offering to add affordable housing units to the Willets Point redevelopment plan in the hopes of gaining the support of Democratic City Council member Hiram Monserrate, whose district includes the project site. Bloomberg has offered to increase the number of affordable homes from 1,110 to nearly 2,000. But Monserrate said he wants the project to include low-income housing. The city now controls 47 percent of the 62-acre Willets Point site.
