City and state officials hope to receive funding from a new
federal stimulus package for small-scale transportation and infrastructure projects
that are almost ready to begin development. Officials said a stimulus package,
which could be passed before the end of the year or soon after President-elect Barack Obama takes
office, would spur the projects and create new jobs.
Possible M.T.A. projects include bridge painting, track replacement, station
cleaning and station rehabilitation. Other projects include maintenance for
the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.
