City Council land use committee approves Willets Point plan

The City Council’s land use committee voted 19 to 2 in favor of passing the Willets Point redevelopment plan. The $3 billion plan will bring housing, shops, a school and convention center to the 62-acre site. Yesterday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg increased the amount of affordable housing the plan will include, and today three of the largest landowners in the area made a deal with the city that they will be able to keep their land and businesses in Willets Point. The City Council still has to vote to approve the project.
