Board rules against extra tenement floors

The Board of Standards and Appeals ruled yesterday that a developer
could not add an extra floor to each of his five-story tenements at
514-516 East 6th Street and 515 East 5th Street, and the top floors may
now have to be removed. At 515 East 5th Street, the sixth floor has
four tenants, each of whom pays about $3,000 per month in rent. It remains up to the Department of Buildings to decide whether the floors should be removed.
