The Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation, a subsidiary of
Empire State Development, is already two months behind on its
construction schedule. Construction has not yet begun on Pier 1, which
was supposed to begin last month, Brooklyn Bridge Plaza and Pier 6,
three elements of the project that are slated to open next October.
Warner Johnston, a spokesperson for the corporation, said construction
on Pier 1 would still begin this month. But Johnston said work on Pier
6 is now set to begin in January. He did not say when work would begin
on Brooklyn Bridge Plaza. The entire park is planned to stretch 1.3 miles from south of Atlantic Avenue to north of the Manhattan Bridge and is scheduled to open in 2013.
