City Hall ready to send rebate checks in time for holiday shopping

City Hall is ready to send out $400 property tax rebate checks this
month, in time for the holiday shopping season, sources told the New
York Post yesterday. Mayor Bloomberg wants to avoid a December 11 court
appearance related to his refusal to send out checks and wants the
issue cleared up before the City Council meets Tuesday. The checks
total $250 million. One source said Bloomberg will be willing to send
out the checks if the council supports a proposed 7 percent property
tax increase.
