Couples can’t sell homes, stay married

Some couples are staying married because they are unable to sell their homes and there’s not enough money to split between the two of them. After a divorce, it’s increasingly unlikely that each spouse will be able to start a new life with enough money for a down payment because home values have dropped. Divorce lawyers and financial advisors said the logistics of divorce have turned around and couples aren’t fighting about who gets to keep the house anymore. “Now [couples] fight about who gets stuck with the dead cow,” Gary Nickelson, president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, said.
