NJ man charged in Chinatown deed fraud

For the second time in less than two years, a New Jersey man was charged with filing fake deeds on Chinatown properties, the office of District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said.

The 82-year-old Yip Shuen Ng, of Dumont, was arraigned today on charges he filed four forged deeds with the city that purported to transfer the properties to himself, prosecutors said.

Ng was accused of forging deeds on 34 Mott Street, 61 Mott Street, 91 Bowery and 26 Mulberry Street, the DA’s office said. He was charged with possessing and filing forged documents in the ongoing investigation, and faces up to four years in prison if found guilty, officials said.

In April 2007, Ng pleaded guilty to attempted offering of a false instrument for filing, and was sentenced to a conditional discharge in May that year. The buildings in that case were 14 Bowery, 93 Bowery and 26 Mulberry Street.

The authorities did not reveal the motives behind the forgeries in either case.
