The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission today voted unanimously to grant landmark status to two Manhattan skyscrapers, One Chase Manhattan Plaza and the Consolidated Edison Building. The commission also approved historic district status for Alice and Agate Courts in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. One Chase Manhattan Plaza, located between Nassau and William streets, was built between 1957 and 1964 and led the revival of the area, where few new buildings had been built since the Great Depression. The Consolidated Edison Building, at 4 Irving Place between East 14th and East 15th streets, was built between 1910 and 1929 and was one of the last buildings designed by Henry J. Hardenbergh, architect of The Plaza Hotel and the Dakota Apartments. Alice and Agate Courts contain 36 rowhouses dating from the late 19th century. TRD
