The Bloomberg administration released new details yesterday about the planned rezoning of the area around Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal. The newly released environmental review document calls for 3,200 new apartments in the area, to be built over the next 10 years, replacing industrial and commercial sites and parking lots. The plan also calls for 34,000 square feet of retail space. According to the planning document, the rezoning likely means there will be 177 fewer hotel rooms in the area surrounding the canal.
