Community wants market on Gun Hill Road

Duane Reade has broken ground on a store in the shopping center at 1700-1800 E. Gun Hill Road in the Bronx, and local residents hope a supermarket will follow. Circuit City opened in the shopping center in August and closed December 21, and Community Board 11 vice chairman Vinny Prezioso is urging Vornado Realty Trust, which owns the mall, to bring a supermarket to that vacant space. Supermarkets haven’t rented space in the area because asking rents would make it too difficult for the stores to make a profit, Yournabe reports.
