U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer and Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes announced Friday that the DA’s office
has received $875,000 to create a Real Estate Fraud Unit. The unit,
which will employ four attorneys and financial investigators along
with other staff, will focus on mortgage fraud cases in Brooklyn. The
DA’s office has not had the resources to prosecute many
housing fraud cases. The money for the new unit comes from the 2009
Omnibus Appropriations Bill, part of the economic recovery package. [Brooklyn Eagle] and [NYT]
