Africa Israel has signed its first lease for space in the former New York Times building at 229 West 43rd Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. TSX Operating signed for a total of 59,294 square feet on the ground floor, lower level and basement. The lease was signed on Feb. 11, and the company is using the space for its Running Subway division, an entertainment group responsible for events like the “Bodies” exhibition at the South Street Seaport and “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” The asking rent was $275 per square foot for the ground floor and $60 per square foot on the lower level. The rent for the basement was “negotiable.” Sources told the Post that retailers are negotiating for the remaining 121,000 square feet in the building.
