Vacant building in Lower Manhattan collapses

A vacant building at 71 Reade Street in Tribeca collapsed early this morning, officials said. There were no injuries reported. The five-story building, which collapsed just after 6:15 a.m., was under construction or rehabilitation, the New York Times reported. The buildings at 65, 67 and 77 Reade Street were evacuated as a precaution, and Reade and Chambers streets were closed. Nearby residents and employees reported seeing debris and smoke.
