Six former city Department of Buildings inspectors have been named in a list of 29 people arrested on charges of corruption and bribery, according to a press release from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. The indictments are the culmination of the DA and the New York Police Department’s two-year investigation into the Lucchese crime family. The DOB inspectors were allegedly involved with the Lucchese group, accepting bribes in exchange for granting building permits, expediting inspections and waiving building violations. The Lucchese family has been charged with making around $400 million in illegal sports bets during the two-year investigation and engaging in a variety of illegal money-making enterprises, including weapons trafficking, narcotics dealing and loan sharking.
