Petty thief charged in Craigslist sublet scam

A well-known pilferer of luxury goods has been charged with grand larceny for allegedly scamming a victim into paying a $4,000 deposit for a non-existent sublet. The suspect, Alexis Sky, who has pleaded guilty to petty larceny in the past, reportedly offered a sublet at 525 East 72nd Street to the victim via Craigslist. But, after paying the deposit fee, the victim allegedly was unable to move in. The building management had no knowledge of the sublet arrangement. That’s when Calvin Tannenbaum, a Morgan Stanley financial advisor and purported friend of Sky, stepped in and allegedly paid the victim back. The situation is just a misunderstanding, according to Tannenbaum, who said that Sky and the tenant miscommunicated over reimbursement. Sky was released on bail earlier this week.
