After much anticipation, the Park Slope Armory opened today on Eighth Avenue between 14th and 15th streets in Park Slope near Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Paper Reported. The $16 million renovation of the 114-year-old building had faced years of delays due to tough times finding an outside operator. The massive facility, which includes a 70,000-square-foot ground floor for athletic activities, will be used for public school students in the surrounding neighborhood, some of whom wouldn’t have access to gymnasium facilities otherwise. The YMCA will operate the center, which will also offer family memberships and access to weight rooms and cardio machines for adults.
