Openings and closings: The Standard Beer Garden opens, Vogue Beauty Spa closes … and more


The Standard Beer Garden at 848 Washington Street and Vogue Beauty Spa at 322 Grand Street

In Harlem, a new sandwich shop called Kuti has opened on the corner of 116th Street and Manhattan Avenue, according to Harlem + Bespoke.

The Westside Independent brings word of lots of openings on the Upper West Side, including Cocofe cafe at 244 West 72nd Street between Broadway and West End Avenue, Associated Supermarkets at 801 Amsterdam Avenue in the Columbus Square development, Bank of America at 200 West 72nd Street, and a children’s creative writing center called Writopia Lab at 155 West 81st Street between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues. A little further south, a Goodburger location is opening on Eighth Avenue between 57th and 58th streets.

Pro Hot Korean eatery in Midtown on 56th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues is closed until April 19 for renovations.

A new Chelsea bar called Drunken Horse has opened at 225 10th Avenue between 23rd and 24th streets.

In Murray Hill, vegetarian restaurant Bhojan is open at 102 Lexington Avenue on the corner of 27th Street.

A restaurant with a stock market theme called the Exchange Bar and Grill is opening in April in the Gramercy Park area at 256 Third Avenue between 20th and 21st streets.
Nearby, Chipotle chain restaurant has opened a new location at the corner of 14th Street and Irving Place.

Elm Health pharmacy has opened on the corner of Seventh Avenue and 14th Street in Greenwich Village.

Despite a tax-related seizure recently, Mary Ann’s at the corner of Second Avenue and 5th Street in the East Village has reopened. Cotto Cafe has opened at 127 Avenue C on the corner of 8th Street.

The Standard Beer Garden has officially opened in the West Village at 848 Washington Street near 13th Street.

A new jewelry store is opening at 177 Orchard Street between Stanton and East Houston streets on the Lower East Side.

The Best Chocolate Cake in the World has signed a lease for a storefront at 55 Spring Street between Mulberry and Lafayette streets, according to a press release. A make-your-own pizza joint Pizza a Casa is opening at 371 Grand Street near the corner of Norfolk Street.

There’s lots of activity in Brooklyn these days. In Williamsburg, a new deli has opened at 568 Lorimer Street. Another deli is opening nearby at 357 Graham Avenue. A new barbecue eatery has also opened in Williamsburg at 91 South 6th Street. Benchmark steakhouse has opened at 339A Second Avenue in Park Slope. Bar and restaurant Abilene is opening at 543 Third Avenue in Gowanus. Cafe spot Little Skips is opening in Bushwick at 941 Willoughby Avenue on the corner of Myrtle Avenue. Also in Bushwick, Bodega Wine Bar will celebrate its official opening March 30. In Clinton Hill, two new organic markets are opening at 375 Myrtle Avenue and 414 Myrtle Avenue, the Clinton Hill Blog reports. A new Key Food grocery store has opened in Bay Ridge at 242 Bay Ridge Avenue. In Sunset Park, Belachan Malaysian restaurant has relocated to 5918 Eighth Avenue near the corner of 60th Street.

On the East End, popular eatery Nobu is opening a pop-up shop in East Hampton. 

Amid these openings, there were a few closings.

On the Lower East Side, the Vogue Beauty Spa at 322 Grand Street has closed at the corner of Orchard Street. Kung Fu Bing is closing at 79 Division Street on the corner of Forsyth Street. In Chelsea, Barocco wine bar has closed at 110 Ninth Avenue on the corner of 17th Street. Also in Chelsea, Cain nightclub is reportedly closing this week at 544 West 27th Street between 10th and 11th avenues. In Midtown West, 1050 Restaurant has shuttered at 725 10th Avenue on the corner of 49th Street. Bombay Eats Indian pizza shop has closed its doors at 314 West 52nd Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues. A children’s clothing store called Hippototamus has closed on Amsterdam Avenue between 81st and 82nd streets with plans to open a new location in the spring. Pudding Stones Wine Bar has closed on Amsterdam Avenue between 90th and 91st streets. Roth’s steakhouse has closed at 680 Columbus Avenue on the corner of 93rd Street and the owner plans to reopen in a yet-to-be-picked location.
