A Long Island-based mortgage modification company that calls itself the “largest foreclosure-rescue company in the nation” has been hit with a permanent injunction after a state Supreme Court judge ruled that it “misled its customers.” American Modification Agency, which did business as Amerimod, targeted homeowners in Brooklyn and southeast Queens, according to Crain’s, charging up-front fees to desperate homeowners but never modifying their loans. The company falsely claimed to be licensed by a government agency and to have a 90 percent to 100 percent success rate, according to the court’s decision, the result of a suit filed last year by state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo following an investigation.
