The Department of Buildings shuttered a Harlem hostel last night, stranding 100 guests — many of whom were staying there because of the Icelandic volcano. L-Hostel, located at 1961 Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard, had to be vacated because it had only one staircase, the agency’s order stated. The hostel’s operator, Gal Sela, claimed there were no safety issues with the building. The Department of Buildings did not respond to calls from the Post. [Post]
