The Marriott Hotel is expected to submit a bid by Nov. 15 to redevelop the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, Queens, famous for hosting the U.S. Open. The chain proposed a $7 million plan in the late 1990s to build an extended-stay hotel that would encompass the stadium and surrounding plots, but the project died when club members protested the plans, a source told the Daily News. Marriott recently decided to approach the club again after its members voted against a proposal by developer Cord Meyer to place 70 condos and a swimming pool at the site. The city is also deciding whether or not to designate the stadium as a landmark, which could affect future development options. Marriott spokesperson Kathy Duffy said she was “not aware” of a new project. Ken Parker, the club’s president, did not return messages seeking comment. [NYDN]
