A Valley Cottage, NY apartment complex is the target of a discrimination suit, according to the U.S. Attorney Southern District of New York, which announced the suit today. The federal civil rights lawsuit against the Rockland County landlord alleges that management at the 96-unit rental complex Burgundy Gardens acted in a deliberately discriminatory manner against African-American applicants. The landlord, Burgundy Gardens LLC, allegedly failed to inform potential African-American tenants of available units in the rental complex and led applicants to believe that some units were occupied when they were, in fact, vacant. The lawsuit seeks an injunction against the allegedly discriminatory practices as well as monetary damages from the landlord. The landlord did not respond to requests for comment. TRD
