The former owner of the Russian Tea Room is planning a new 125-seat restaurant in the Theater District that would evoke memories of the 150 West 57th Street eatery with a more contemporary vibe, Crain’s reported. Restaurateur Ellen Kaye, whose family owned the Russian Tea Room from 1947 to 1996, and her business partner, Seth Goldman, are now negotiating a lease for Moscow 57, which would host live music acts and serve a mix of traditional Russian fare and lighter snacks and tapas. It could open as soon as September. Sources said the new restaurant would likely require investors, including Kaye’s cousin, Howard Kaye, and Stacy Bogdonoff, of the former Neuman & Bogdonoff catering company, to pony up $2 million to $3 million.
