Roosevelt Island Operating Corp approved Marymount Manhattan College’s request to reserve 26 more units for students at the school’s dormitory building at 10 River Road in Manhattan Park, the Roosevelt Islander blog reported, bringing the total to 61 student apartments. Roosevelt Island is already home to students of New York University, Cornell University and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in addition to Marymount, and Stanford unveiled a proposal to bring as many as 2,000 of its own students to the East River island earlier this week. Though residents interviewed by Roosevelt Islander seemed unhappy with the agreement, the RIOC collects rent from Marymount in exchange for the property, and cited the additional income and the potential loss of a “high quality tenant” upon rejection as reasons for accepting the application.
