The porn shop across the street from Madison Square Garden is going high-brow. According to DNAinfo, Peep World, whose neon signage and red awning has long greeted Midtown tourists, is set to shutter in a few months, to be replaced by a second location of nighttime hotspot Overlook Lounge. The manager of the new club, Patrick Evangelista, told Community Board 5’s public safety committee last night that the 33rd Street space, near Seventh Avenue, will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation, including the addition of a second floor on top of the building as well as a retractable roof deck. Evangelista is envisioning the new Overlook Lounge, whose first location is at 225 East 44th Street in Turtle Bay, as “a very large gastropub” when it opens in the summer of 2012, he said. A porn shop, he added, “doesn’t need to be your first sight” as a visitor to city. The committee voted unanimously for the plan. [DNAinfo]
