Spence School buys UES property for $26.1M

(Updated at 4 p.m. with statement from Spence School.) The Spence School, an exclusive private school for girls, has
purchased a property at 412 East 90th Street for $26.1 million, the
New York Observer reported. The property is several blocks from its
main campus at 22 East 91st Street. It was purchased from Hertz Corporation
and includes a parking lot, according to the Observer. The school purchased the property for a future athletic program facility, it said in statement. The school does not have any immediate plans for the renovation and use of the building and will
be engaging in a planning process for its future utilization, according to the statement.

The school owns another building at 17 East 90th Street, which it bought in 2008. As previously reported, it had plans to build a glass atrium to that location from its main campus, a plan that met with opposition from residents. [NYO]
