Eighteen-year-old, cutting-edge home design company Moss is closing its retail space at 150 Greene Street in Soho Feb. 17, the New York Times reported, as a result of high overheads and lagging sales. The store’s owners Murray Moss and Franklin Getchell told the Times that their “old paradigm wasn’t working,” and they felt they were operating a “free museum,” allowing shoppers to browse the furnishings without making any purchases. The store will relocate to a smaller space, the owners said, where they will exhibit new designs and launch a consultancy arm, which will help to monetize the brand. It was not immediately clear where the store would be moving. [NYT]
