Carrie Chiang puts her brownstone up for rent
Top broker lists UWS townhouse for $35,000 per month
Top-ranking Corcoran broker Carrie Chiang has put her own 21-foot-wide, single-family brownstone at 238 West 74th Street on the rental market, after failing to find a buyer for it after 70 days on the sales market, according to data from Streeteasy.com.
Chiang, who has reportedly helped stars such as Jim Carrey and Barbara Streisand find homes, took the property off the sales market yesterday and relisted it for rent, asking $35,000 a month, Streeteasy shows. Chiang originally listed it for sale at $9.8 million, but the price was dropped to $9.25 million earlier this month.
According to city documents, Chiang bought the townhouse under the name THI Properties Ltd in 2008, and appears to have paid $4.26 million.
She does not appear to have lived in the property, however; when interviewed for a feature in the November issue of The Real Deal, she said she had no plans to move out of her 2,300-square-foot, three-bedroom condo at the Trump Palace, which she nabbed in 1991 after helping to sell 120 units at the tower. Since 1991, she said, she has purchased several other units at Trump Palace as investment properties.
Chiang declined to comment on the rental listing for her brownstone, which she is listing with Spencer Ting of the Corcoran Group.
The 74th Street townhouse is located in the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s West End-Collegiate Historic District Extension, according to the listing. The property, which has five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms and is located between Broadway and West End Avenue, features a 63-foot-long Great Room, a handcrafted staircase, and a garden.
Chiang won the Corcoran Team of the Year award with fellow broker Janet Wang at the firm’s annual awards dinner in February. She is currently listing a Beaux-Arts, five-story mansion on the Upper East Side owned by JPMorgan Chase’s Jeff Urwin; the property is asking $26 million.
