From the October issue: In our monthly round-up of real estate news from the Tri-State area, The Real Deal leads with a story on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security planning to shut down the animal disease research facility on Plum Island in the Long Island Sound. The federal government is now soliciting input on plans for the 840-acre island. Some options include opening up the island to residences. Meanwhile, over on Long Island, although Nassau and Suffolk counties have seen year-over-year increases in home prices, there has also been an increase in homeowners who are underwater on their mortgages.
